As the war on single use plastic rages on, most retailers and brand owners have opted to reduce their reliance on this particular packaging format and are on the hunt for workable alternatives and reasonable substitutions do exist.
CTP recently launched Earth Choice, our brand of environmentally friendly packaging solutions. Amongst a host of offerings spanning label and flexible packaging solutions, fibre based carton packaging produced from either recycled or virgin fibre board presents itself as the simplest solution.
Noticeably end consumers have become dissatisfied with the amount of plastic packaging found in the fruit and vegetable departments and retailers have responded accordingly with fewer plastic and polystyrene trays now visible in store.
We at CTP Cartons & Labels have positioned ourselves to play an active role in this transition and currently manufacture a wide range of cartons and trays suitable to an array of fruit and vegetable products.
We know that a complete change of packaging format can be intimidating. For this reason our in-house packaging design specialists’ work closely with clients and together we consider the entire supply chain from the pack house to the end-users and recycling processers when developing the best possible solutions.
This holistic approach ensures that not only do products remain well-protected but clients are not required to compromise on aesthetics either. Cellulose windows allow the product to remain visible without compromising the recyclability of the carton and our specialised printing and finishing equipment allow our clients to customise packaging shapes, sizes and designs to meet their specific needs.
In most instances it hasn’t been necessary to completely reinvent the wheel, our assortment of carrier packs and corrugated trays have been available commercially for years, traditionally popular with small to medium volume beverage producers and in niche markets. The quest for sustainable solutions has transformed this product category and we’ve experienced an increase in uptake from large volume producers who have opted to move away from the traditional shrink wrap format in a bid to reduce their reliance on single use plastic.
Other markets in favour of our fibre based alternatives to replace traditional polystyrene and plastic formats are the fast food and the prepared food markets. Popular offerings include, amongst others, clamshell burger cartons, prepared sandwich cartons and Chinese takeout cartons.
Our commitment to assisting our clients in reaching their sustainability goals is not limited to the element of recyclability, as a FSC certified printer we continue to focus our efforts internally on sourcing substrates from sustainably managed forests. Additionally, we comply with the most stringent of industry standards and are IS0 9001 and FSSC 22000 certified.
